{"id":1579,"date":"2010-06-09T06:22:32","date_gmt":"2010-06-09T05:22:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/?p=1579"},"modified":"2010-06-09T06:22:32","modified_gmt":"2010-06-09T05:22:32","slug":"experimental-chambers-barfutures-set-to-close","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/?p=1579","title":{"rendered":"Experimental chambers BarFutures set to close"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"img alignleft size-full wp-image-487\" style=\"width:200px;\">\r\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/wig_books.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/wig_books.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a>\r\n\t<div>Barristers - No appetite for change<\/div>\r\n<\/div>The Law Socieny Gazette is reporting that the experimental virtual chambers BarFutures is to close its doors at the end of June after two years because of a \u2018lack of appetite for change within the profession\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The alternative set was designed to meet the challenges posed by the Legal Services Act 2007 and give barristers a more cost-effective and time-efficient way to practise.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than working in a traditional chambers, BarFutures provided management and marketing services and working accommodation in London and Manchester, to enable barristers to operate remotely and remain fully independent while benefiting from shared support.<\/p>\n<p>It gave solicitors a more cost-effective and streamlined way to instruct barristers, using BarFutures\u2019 own barristers, or the organisation\u2019s nationwide network of affiliated chambers.<\/p>\n<p>BarFutures director Ian Dodd told the Gazette:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2018When we set up two years ago we set some stretching financial targets.
