Obtaining a combination of \u201cblacklisted\u201d subject may hamper admission to the <strong>London School of Economics (LSE)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Cambridge University\u2019s website does not include <strong>Law <\/strong>on such a list, but does state: \u201cFor many courses, prior knowledge of certain subjects is required\u2026 Some courses (e.g. Law, Oriental Studies, and Philosophy) do not require you to have studied the subject before.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"img alignleft alignnone size-medium wp-image-541\" style=\"width:140px;\">\r\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/books.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/books.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a>\r\n\t<div>books<\/div>\r\n<\/div>However, this year, LSE considers <strong>Law <\/strong>a \u201cnon-preferred\u201d subject.   But, this only applies if it is part of a combination of subjects from their \u201cnon-preferred\u201d list. So, you are less likely to be offered a place if your three A levels are Law, Business Studies and French, because Law and Business Studies are on the list.  But a combination of Law, Maths and French would be OK, because it only includes one \u201cnon-preferred\u201d subject.<\/p>\n<p>Just one subject at A level in the LSE <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lse.ac.uk\/resources\/undergraduateProspectus2008\/howToApply.htm#generated-subheading5\">\u201cNon-preferred list\u201d<\/a>, may not be a problem, and they are certainly less fussy about what subjects you did at AS.<\/p>\n<p>The following are in their \u201cNon-preferred list of subjects\u201d.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accounting<\/li>\n<li>Art and Design<\/li>\n<li>Business Studies<\/li>\n<li>Communication Studies<\/li>\n<li>Dance\/Theatre Studies<\/li>\n<li>Design and Technology<\/li>\n<li>Drama\/Theatre Studies<\/li>\n<li>Home Economics<\/li>\n<li>Information and Communication Technology<\/li>\n<li><strong>Law<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Media Studies<\/li>\n<li>Music Technology<\/li>\n<li>Sports Studies<\/li>\n<li>Travel and Tourism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It appears they will not count at all General Studies or Critical Thinking at A level towards your total score.<\/p>\n<p>LSE go on to say that they are looking for other qualities beyond A level subjects and grades, such as ability and motivation.<\/p>\n<p>The LSE website \u201cNon-preferred list\u201d is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lse.ac.uk\/resources\/undergraduateProspectus2008\/howToApply.htm#generated-subheading5\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several top universities &#8211; Russell Group members &#8211; \u201cblacklist\u201d certain subjects that they do not consider preferable for students to have studied as undergraduates.
