{"id":779,"date":"2009-01-17T06:49:05","date_gmt":"2009-01-17T06:49:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/?p=779"},"modified":"2009-01-17T06:49:05","modified_gmt":"2009-01-17T06:49:05","slug":"health-and-safety-offences-act-2008-gets-serious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/?p=779","title":{"rendered":"Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008 gets serious"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Health and Safety (Offences) Act 2008 which came into forvce on 16th January makes three main changes<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>increases the fines available to the courts<\/li>\n<li>imprisonment now available for more offences<\/li>\n<li>more cases triable either way (more cases will be open to an unlimited penalty)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"img alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-780\" style=\"width:150px;\">\r\n\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sixthform.info\/lawblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/23_22_31-first-great-western-class-180-adelante-train-gloucester_web-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"train\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>\r\n\t<div>train<\/div>\r\n<\/div>Magistrates&#8217; can now impose up to 12 months imprisonment and \u00a320,000 fine for a breach of  health and safety rules <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">(This is an exception to the \u00a35,000 and 6 months maximum that is usually found in text books)<\/span>.
